The Peace River Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists opened its 7th show at the Beaverlodge Area Cultural Centre on Sunday, November 23rd. The show was juried by a three person panel of senior members of the Federation. First place, “The Encana Award of Excellence,” was awarded to local artist Toni Schuler for his watercolour entitled “Once Upon a Time.” Toni was surprised to receive this recognition given the excellence of the other juried pieces in the show. Charlie Parslow, President of the Peace River Chapter, said, “This award to Toni is an acknowledgement by the national organisation of the high quality of Toni’s work. Essentially the Federation is saying to Toni that this piece is of a quality that would make it eligible for inclusion in a national level show.” Toni was further honoured by being given the “People’s Choice Award.” Second place was awarded to Angela Fehr for her watercolour, “Peace River Corner.” Third went to Penny Boden’s “The Cat’s Meow,” and the Award of Excellence was taken by Beaverlodge’s Marjorie Henn for “A Summer Morning’s Palette.” The Peace River Chapter of the FCA holds two shows each year. The shows are made possible through the generous support of ENCANA. The show, “Life in the Peace,” runs until December 18th. In addition to Toni’s work and those of the other winners, there are 26 pieces of work by 12 artists from the Alberta/BC Peace Region. Works include original hand pulled prints – linocuts, stencil monoprints, collographs – as well as paintings – watercolours, acrylics, and mixed media. All pieces are available for purchase. The Beaverlodge Cultural Centre invites shoppers to drop in to its Christmas Gift Shop featuring works by local artists and handmade gifts from the Peace Region. Shop locally and support our local artists! Gallery hours are 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday, 1pm to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, closed Mondays.
