The Peoples Democratic Movements leadership has proven via a press conference held on Monday December 1st, 2014 that they continue to be out of touch with the people and priorities of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and that they have resolved to continue the backward politics of yesteryear. The Party Leader in a usual Facebook rant, published snippets of her speech which amounted to no more than the regular lambasting rhetoric and contained no useful substance for the development of the TCI. In fact, the statement may actually damage and slow the countrys financial recovery. Potential investors viewing that press conference would likely be deterred as they come to know that a possible government in waiting is not likely to continue to support projects and commitments started under this government. The reckless statements of the opposition party says everything besides the fact that the TCI is open for business and insinuates that they are hell-bent on undoing everything done under this government. Its indeed alarming that a political party would regard themselves as Kill Bill in this age. The role of Kill Bill in the Quentin Tarantino film is one of a woman consumed by hurt and pain and driven by revenge to become a serial killer, picking off targets one at a time, in the most gruesome ways. For a female leader to award herself a Kill Bill award is certainly of poor moral judgment and portrays a blood-thirsty attitude of seek and kill at all cost. It is disheartening that on December 1st, the day that officially starts the Yuletide season, a seasoned politician would address the nation with such name-calling and character assaults, but recently the public has come to expect no more or less from certain circles. May I state for the record that the report card and awards program that is so widely celebrated is not a new PDM idea; nor is it by any means original. In her usual quest to become a patriotic Bahamian, the Opposition Leader simply borrowed a line from the Former Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingrams famous campaign speech on Clifford Park, in which he issued a report card on the current Prime Minister Perry Christie. Every day more and more people are learning to work with what they have and commit themselves harder and push more, despite the obstacles. To try and discourage progress and dampen the spirits of the country, especially during Christmas time is very disingenuous and unpatriotic. Opposition parties need to be more than political John Crows - circling overhead waiting for government efforts to fail so they can pick it apart and feast at the nations expense. Opposition members, like the government are elected officials and the TCI will hold them no less accountable if they do not behave in a manner that is conducive to the growth and development of the country. The press conference made it quite clear that the PDM has decided to leverage the TCI Immigration Bill as a means of political advantage. It is also clear that they will only facilitate its passage once the timing is right; that is, once the new voters list is published and their Deputy Leader has had a chance to see where he stands among Haitian voters. These are the same voters who were burnt and humiliated by the PDM in the past. The magic of time has brought the roosters home to roost on the doorsteps of the PDM, as the same Haitian children they had put out of school in the past have now attained voting age and the PDM dare not allow them to hold the pencil and speak politically from their memories. I therefore call on the public of the TCI to reject the ploys and trickery of the PDM and not fall for their tired ploys and washed-up, empty rhetoric. The fuzzy picture of a better life under a PDM government is no more than a dangerous and wicked web of deception designed to fool you and lead you off the path of recovery. The road to progress is not easy, and we are not fully out of the woods, but solid foundations to financial recovery are not built overnight and not built without blood, sweat and tears. Pay no mind to political figures who have so much time on their hands but refuse to deliver full concise and productive reports or presentations the country. Its surprising that the PDM leader even found the time to attend a press conference between multiple trips to The Bahamas to attend, in one case, the funeral of people she hardly knew and in the other instance to attend a funeral of people who barely knew of her. The awards ceremony despite being long was still incomplete. The Opposition Leader neglected to issue a Facebook award, and with good reason. Her speech spoke sternly against patting oneself on the back and it would not have been appropriate to confer such honor upon herself. With a Post-per-hour rating akin to that of an adolescent on social media, no one could deny that worldwide, even in Silicon Valley, no leader of no organization ever in a year work their fingers so hard in online commentary. Let us not forget that the current PDM leader was one a paid member of the Interim Administrations Consultative Forum and that same administration is singlehandedly responsible for creating the most regressive laws and bills that the TCI has ever seen. Dont allow the notion to be sold that the Opposition Leader represents anything today that she did not represent in her years in the House of Assembly prior to now. The stifling ideals of the interim administration were soundly rejected by the people of the TCI and the ghost of her faithful service to the interim administration will inevitably haunt her political career for years to come. We will always remember whose side she stood on and how she stood until she was unceremoniously discarded by the British as punishment for waking up and trying undo the already done.
