The Perfect Gift by Jack R East JR The Perfect Gift Jane is a gourmet chocoholic. Her mother invited all her friends and family over for a large twenty-first birthday celebration. As Jane was opening her presents, she discovered to her delight that one of her presents was a large box of rare, expensive, delicious, and absolutely decadent chocolates. As she examined the contents of the present Jane’s mind was immediately filled with wonderful fantasies of how she would spend many hours and days slowly enjoying this wonderful gift. Jane’s fantasies were interrupted when she heard her mother calling her name. “Jane”, her mother said “why don’t you share your gift with your family and friends?” You can imagine the horror Jane felt as she heard her mother say the simple words, “why don’t you share your gift”? Jane thought to herself, this gift is too precious to share with others! If I share my gift, there will be very little left for me to enjoy! What should I do? Jane was raised by parents that taught her to be a good and kind person. She was taught to be thankful for all that she receives and to share her gifts with others. With much sadness, Jane knew that her mother was right. She needed to share her precious gift with others. Jane then passed the box to her mother to share with others. Jane was sad that there would be very little left of her gift for her to enjoy after it was passed around. Jane had finished opening her presents when she saw that her box of gourmet chocolates had been returned to the table with the other presents. Imagine her surprise when she looked at the box and noticed that the box was not almost empty as she had expected. The box was completely full and overflowing with gourmet chocolates. The box also had grown to ten times its original size. Jane’s mind was filled with wonder as she discovered that when you share a precious gift with others, your gift is not lessened or diminished by the sharing of your gift. The gifts you share nourish and enrich others and are returned to you in much greater measure than which was given away. Jane’s birthday gift of gourmet chocolates can be compared to God’s precious gift of unconditional and immeasurable love. God’s love is a valuable and precious gift. We did nothing to earn or deserve this gift. It was given to us because God deeply loves us. I can assure that no matter how many times you share the gift of God’s love, your gift will never be diminished or lessened by the sharing. Your gift will be returned to you and increased beyond your ability to measure. The simple Bible verse of John 3:16 says it all. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Cherish and enjoy this precious gift. It becomes much greater when you attempt to give it away. It is returned to you increased and undiminished by the sharing no matter how many times you share the gift of God’s Love.
