The Philippines. A developing nation? Pfft! No chance. People empowered to bring about change do not care. They are comfortable enough so why bother? I am very forgetful and sometimes I get chasing emails for payment. Sometimes I have paid but I still get them! I do not overlook payment for anything deliberately. Ever. It is not my fault that an automated payment system is not in place to obviate this problem. One supplier, who I will not name as they are all the same anyway, just got this response to their incorrect automated OVERDUE email.... Sir/Madam, My bill is not only paid but is paid for September in advance also. I actually resent being reminded to pay bills and I resent more being told I am in arrears when I am not. I am from the UK where companies like yours demonstrate more customer care and make easier the necessary payments. They typically set up “direct debit” or “standing order” payments directly from a customer bank account to the company account. Once in place, monthly payments are automatically made thereby avoiding the need for unwelcome reminders and incorrect overdue payment notices such as the one you sent me today. This nation copies music, movies and branded fashion accessories, all entirely pointless in progressing the infrastructure and status of the nation, yet it is not smart enough to copy tested and proven business models that certainly would assist in advancing the nation out of its 3rd world status. When I first came here in 2004 I considered this was a developing nation. But it is not. Ten years later I see no development at all, just a stagnant, foolishly run nation and foolishly run organisations that are so busy doing the same dumb thing each day with no intention, attitude, willingness or concern to actually progress. You, personally, have a choice. You can read this, check my account and ensure it is up to date and do nothing more OR you can do that PLUS you can send this email to your senior management in the hope they will consider my constructive criticism and put wheels in motion to actually progress the way your organisation is run. Sadly, as your senior management is likely to be already content doing the same dumb thing every day and seeing no specific need to change, they are likely to do nothing accordingly. If you do nothing about my comments, you are failing in your personal responsibility to help this nation get up from its knees and at least, sit on a chair! If your senior management do nothing, and being actually empowered to do something, they are failing even more! Thousands and thousands of inconvenienced customers paying to get to payment centres, some like me who sometimes simply overlook the date, is representative of an archaic system of payment that you, as a service provider, need to seek to improve. I most respectfully suggest that your automated system for wrongly chasing people to make payment of an overdue account is replaced by an automated system that facilitates payment. Do it and be proud or don’t do it and be very ashamed of yourself for failing to contribute anything to your country. Faithfully yours,
