The Pickens County School Board unanimously approved to execute the new superintendent’s contract this week. Dr. Lula Mae Perry, the new Pickens County superintendent, was selected for the position earlier this month to replace Dr. Ben Desper, who submitted his resignation in May. According to the initial announcement, Dr. Perry was to serve as the interim superintendent. However, during Wednesday night’s called meeting, school board attorney Phillip Landrum III explained that instead of a six month contract, Perry’s will be a year long contract. Landrum said the school superintendent association recommends that full superintendents have a one year contract. Present at Wednesday’s meeting Dr. Perry expressed her gratitude to the board and said she looks forward to the opportunity to serve the community.
