Now that Rene Gonzalez has renounced his citizenship and is completing the remainder of his parole in Cuba with his wife Olga Salanueva, this means Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo is the only member of the Cuban 5 who has not seen his wife. For the past 14 years Gerardo Hernandez’s wife, Adriana Perez, hasn’t been allowed to visit him. The U.S. asserts that she is a risk to national security, despite the fact that the U.S. government has no proof or rationale to justify this belief. This separation is a violation of Gerardo’s civil and international rights as a prisoner. Mail or Fax Ms. Pillay the Projects Letter and hold her accountable to her public statement of support. Remind her that the U.S. community supports the Cuban 5 and their wives visitation rights. Download the Visa Letter U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Expresses Support for the case of the Cuban Five Mar. 1, 2013 Reprinted from MinRex UNITED NATIONS, GENEVA, March 1, 2013 - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs. Navenethem Pillay, received, yesterday, Olga Salanueva, spouse of René González, and Adriana Pérez, spouse of Gerardo Hernández. During the meeting, Adriana and Olga explained to the High Commissioner the necessity that this organization intercedes in a direct manner on behalf of the case of the Cuban Five for a definitive solution, while they requested their support in order to be granted visas to entry the United States to visit their husbands. Olga stressed that the supervised freedom regime endured by Rene constitutes a legal absurdity that does not comply with any purpose and unnecessarily prohibits his return to his Homeland and reunite his relatives. Adriana requested a humanitarian gesture that requires the political willingness and ethics of the United States Government. Mrs. Pillay acknowledged the visa denial as a violation to the human rights and expressed this cannot constitute an additional punishment. UN Commissioner expressed her support to this fight and her intention to do whatever is possible to find a solution to the case.
