The Preacher bicep curl The inherent danger with this curl lies in - TopicsExpress

The Preacher bicep curl The inherent danger with this curl lies in the protracted scapular position and forward tilt of the scapula (coracoid process is directed anteriorly and inferiorly). In this position, the subacromial structures bursa, biceps tendon and supraspinatus tendon are in a potential impingement position. It is therefore an exercise which has no place in the safe lifting practices of well informed gym-goers. Leg extension An isolation exercise designed directly to load the quadriceps muscle group. It is performed in sitting, with the upper calves about an inch forward of the seat and the shins supporting a padded roll just above the ankles. The leg extension has long been considered a dangerous exercise in knee rehab, mainly because it is an open kinetic chain movement. In an open chain, the quadriceps work in isolation without any opposing hamstring activation. Back extensions The aim is to lift the body into extension. It belongs to the posterior chain group of exercises which recruit the back extensors, gluteals and hamstrings. There are two ways of doing back extensions roman chair extensions and dorsal raises on the floor. The dorsal floor raise is an exercise commonly done in floor or mat classes, lying prone (face down) and lifting either chest alone or chest and feet together off the ground. This is an effective way to recruit the back extensors and gluteals, and requires almost no equipment other than a comfortable surface. However, the amount of spinal compression in this movement is significant, especially in the back plus legs version, and potentially dangerous. Have a good weekend :)
