The 1300 series was designed to haul freight in Missouri to Tennessee and from Mississippi to Pensacola. She was built in the early 1900s by Alco with modifications being made in the 1940s. The Pride of Pensacola has been a landmark since my childhood. While still on active duty, I always got a pleasure driving by her while on leave to visit family in Panama City. While the city changed and grew around the train, she remained constant, steadfast in her new leisurely role as a local historical landmark. To see her in motion again would be so grand! TECHNICAL From the start, I had a vision of what I wanted to achieve with this photograph. My vision was to put the train in the sky and have her appear as though she is emerging from the clouds with track being created in front of her as she moves along. A nightmare for photographers, there is a fence very close to the train that precludes a clear shot from almost any angle. While I found an angle that minimized the fence, a lot still had to be masked out to go forward with my vision. I started with a High Dynamic Range (HDR) image of the train from 3 bracketed photographs. Masking everything out except for the train was time consuming and what I consider the work part of the process. The background cloud is another HDR image from 3 bracketed photographs. The HDR cloud image was flipped horizontally, rotated, then combined with a photomorphis textured layer.
