The Princess and the Cobra . By . Kavindra Rishi aka Jeffrey Armstrong aka Jamadagneya das . Once upon a time, there was a princess Who lived in a city surrounded by a fortress, . Guarded by a cobra with five hoods, She wandered in her garden, a secret wood, . With nine gates and nine imposing towers, Nine roads and nine enclosing powers. . Her father the king and mother the changeable queen Could not be reached, though they were often seen. . . Invisible servants fulfilled her every wish, On the banks of a pond, with golden swimming fish . Who swam in shapes of endless transformation Creating forms in her imagination, . She dreamed of a Handsome Prince in a distant land Who someday would arrive to claim her hand . But in the dungeon, a black and evil witch Had cast a wicked spell, had made a switch . So dreaming seemed awake and waking sleep That sat upon the kingdom thick and deep, . Confusing all, obscuring day and night, Which broke the even rhythm of the light. . Then from the shadows marching fierce and proud An army marched upon them like a cloud, . Seven hundred and twenty divisions fought All around the castle where she was caught. . And day by day, they wore the ramparts down, The aging princess in her tattered gown, . Walked sleepless at night with her serpent friend, Unable to leave and fearful of the end, . She saw the flames and heard the dreadful cries The blackened smoke that burned her nose and eyes . Until at last they caught her by the hair, And dragged her crying from that mountain lair . Carried her off and threw her into a fire That burns all night and is always getting brighter. . Copyright 2014 Jeffrey Armstrong All Rights Reserved .
