The Psychic He knew early on in life that he was special. He would know when the Ice Cream man was coming way before the bell was heard coming down the street. Sometimes his dreams would tell him things like his neighbor’s dog getting hit the next day by a car. Once as a young kid, he followed the Mailman for blocks pleading him to go to the Hospital until the Mailman dropped dead on the street of a heart attack. But most of his visions were mundane and sometimes helpful. Like the time he was smoking his first joint in the school bathroom with a friend. He was able to duck out just in time before the teacher came in looking for them. In his Teens, he had fun impressing girls with stock options that he would predict or Baseball game scores. He always played it safe and trail things down if somebody would get spooked. It was his secret world and his alone. Don’t get it wrong, his life was comfortable. A little investment here, visit a sports bar once a month score a few thousand and lay low for few weeks. He wasn’t greedy he just did not like working for a living. But the dreams and nightmares would come along every once in a while and shake his world. He grew up in the Bronx and had dreamed a dream about his favorite uncle Sal who also was a hustler, in a different way, he was a bookie. He had loved his uncle because he did not get alone with his Dad who had an honest job. He drove a garbage truck for 30 years and always wanted his son to get a job. Sal was stabbed and killed by a guy who couldn’t pay. It had all been in his dream. He had also had a dream September 10. In his dream he saw both planes crash into the two towers and the one into the Pentagon. He had done nothing and felt sick as it all happened the next morning. He packed up and moved to Vegas. After all, where is the best place to blend in with Gamblers? A few years later, he dreamed about the big recession that was about to hit, and decided to break his own rule. He had some premonitions about lotteries before, but he did not want to stand out or let on about how much money he had, but he thought just this one time. He hit the powerball a few months later for 25 million. When the recession hit and he bought up all the houses and business’ that were lost. He was set up for life. He hired a whole staff to run his ventures and became the proverbial silent Partner. It had seemed he had finally silenced his dreams and his demons. Life was good, until last week. In his dream he was high on a mountain, every thing was dark, in horror he watched as a huge meteor bigger than a mile wide, hit Vegas. Devastation went on forever. Hundreds of miles wiping out most of North America. In the dream, he looked at his watch, it was 5 PM. He awoke at 2AM barely breathing. A scream was stuck in his throat and a cold sweat permeated his body. He thought he must get to his Mom and Dad in New York. He drove madly to the airport and flew to New York and took a cab to his parents. He wildly told them of his dream and begged them to come to the airport and fly to Africa or South America. The neighbors heard all the shouting and called the police. They came and finally subdued him and took him to the Mental Hospital downtown. They sedated him and stuck him in a room to be watched. A couple of hours later he woke up and fumbled for his pants, finding his watch he looked in horror at the time, 3 minutes to 5. Knowing what was about to happen to New York and his family, he lost it and jumped out the 5th floor window. A couple of hours later the investigating NYPD Detective was standing over his body asking Questions. The nurse told him the guy was shouting something about the end of the world at 5 o’clock. The Detective asked a few more questions and announced his investigation was over because it was almost 8 and he had to pick up his wife at 8:30. As he was walking to his car he heard a small rumble followed by a tremendous roar. Life in New York as we know it, simply ceased. You see, the guy had his dream in Las Vegas where it was 5PM, which, because of daylight savings time it was 8PM in New York.
