The Quran has no authentic text, no original document, no verified sources. The Quran has no order, no logic and no narrative. It is a collection of stories, sayings and legends about Muhammad. Muslim and non-Muslim scholars alike disagree on whether Muhammad compiled the Quran during his lifetime or if this task began with the first caliph Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (632-634). Once the Quran was compiled, due to the unanimity of the sources, Muslims agree that the Quran we see today was canonized by Uthman ibn Affan (653-656) Upon the canonization of the Quran, Uthman ordered the burning of all personal copies of the Quran. – Wikipedia (Note: Muhammad was poisoned to death in 632 AD.) Before Uthman canonized the Quran there were different versions or codices, none of which exist today. These codices never gained general approval and were viewed by Muslims as the personal copies of individuals. The two most influential at this time were ?Abd Allah b. Mas?ud’s and Ubayy b. Ka?b’s codices. Zaid b. Thabit said: “The Prophet died and the Qur’an had not been assembled into a single place.” (p. 118, Ahmad b. `Ali b. Muhammad al `Asqalani, ibn Hajar, Fath al Bari, 13 vols, Cairo, 1939/1348, volume 9, page 9) The oldest Quran fragments is dated around 720 A.D., almost a century after Muhammad’s death. Another older Quran dates from around 790 A.D., and it is in the British Library - 158 years after Muhammad’s death.
