**The Republican Parables** I was sitting on my deck with my Baby Taylor guitar, pickin’ the Wildwood Flower, when Harvey, my Republican neighbor, walked up and sat down. “I don’t see how you can do that,” he said. “Play that guitar.” Republicans have difficulties with comprehension. “It’s easy,” I said, “I could teach you in less than forty years.” I put the guitar on it’s stand. “What’s on your mind, Harvey?” “Oh, not much,” he said, “I just saw you out here and thought we could chat. I know you follow politics.” “We could chat,” I said. “I was wondering what you thought about the new Senator down in Texas, Ted Cruz. “He’s an idiot,” I said. Harvey continued his thought, “He seems to be pretty good on the immigration issue. Don’t you think?” “No,” I said, “he’s against the bill most Republicans are trying to pass. And, by the way, his father was a Cuban who fought with Castro, and migrated to the United states as a young man.” “Another guy I like,” Harvey said, “Is that Darrell Issa fellow. I think he’s the Senator from Maine.” I said, “He’s a member of Congress from California. He’s and idiot.” Harvey said, “He seems pretty good at exposing scandals in the Obama White House.” I took a sip from my coffee cup. “He only exposes his own colossal ignorance,” I pointed out. “I’m pretty impressed with Rand Paul,” Harvey said. “That guy really wants to balance the budget.” “Rand Paul is an idiot,” I said. “Here comes my wife.” He was looking over my shoulder. “She’s wondering where I went.” He looked back at me, “I was sorry to see Jim DeMint leave the congress. He was a good old boy.” “Jim DeMint was a worthless Senator, and he’s an idiot,” I said. Harvey got up, walked down the stairs where his wife was waiting. “I like talking politics with you, Ben. I know you’re not a Republican.” His wife was leading him away. He said something about Sarah Palin. I picked up my Baby Taylor and began picking some Waltzing Matilda.
