The Right Turn Roy Lessin Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,”This is the way, walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 NKJV The other day, while talking with a friend, he told me he needed to travel to a town about an hour away. “The person I am going to visit gave me directions,” my friend said. “He told me to take Highway 412 to Highway 59 and then turn left.” “That isn’t the way you want to turn,” I responded. “Are you sure?” my friend asked. “Yes,” I said, “if you make a left you will be heading south and the town you want to go to is north.” “Well,” my friend responded, “the person I talked to told me to turn left. Are you sure it’s a right turn?” “Yes, but let’s check the map to make sure.” I replied. My friend turned on his iPad, opened the map, and typed in the name of the town. There it was, as clear as could be! The town was to the north and not the south. My friend wisely trusted the map and decided to turn right on Highway 59 instead of turning left. If he had stayed with the original directions, he would never have arrived at his desired destination. In order for us to be going in the right direction, we need to make the right turn. Spiritually speaking, left turns are the ones that move us away from our desired destination. Paul reminds Timothy that turning away from the truth is a “left turn” that will result in being turned aside to fables, lies, myths, and falsehoods (2 Timothy 4:2-5). Let today be a “right turn” day for you! Turn toward the truth—pursue it, love it, listen to it, embrace it, rejoice in it, obey it, feast upon it, declare it, demonstrate it. Turn toward the light—let it show you the way, let it guide your steps, let it dispel the darkness and remove confusion, let it define your purpose, let it give you clarity, let it bring you wisdom, good counsel, and a righteous life. Turn toward victory—fight the good fight of faith, resist the lie, advance through the opposition, take grace as your portion, press toward the mark of your high calling, say what God says, think what He thinks, feel as He feels, love as He loves. Turn toward Jesus—fix your eyes upon His glory, delight your heart in His beauty, enjoy the pleasures of His company, celebrate the blessings of His majesty, walk with Him in the way of your destiny.
