The Rivers State Government boasts of providing for 35,000 persons. No one is asking government to continue to add to the over bloated civil services in the name of providing jobs. 35,000 jobs does not dent the 100,000s on the unemployment and under employment army list. Today university graduates are drivers, hotel waiters and stewards, roadside and street traders, teach in private schools for as low as N5 - 10,000 a month, work on construction sites s labourers when they are not parading the village and town squares while the girls are mixing concrete on building sites. What we expect of our leaders is for them to become social entrepreneurs with all the looted monies and the law makers with all the jumbo awards they have put down for themselves. Then we expect government to practice political entrepreneurship with their office and government. Social entrepreneurship is about wealthy people going out of the way to invest in providing businesses and enterprises not just for the profit motive alone but primarily to empower the poor and less prevail edged. And Political entrepreneurship is those in power taking it as their primary mission to provide the enabling environment for businesses to thrive to provide mass employment and empower families of working citizens. THIS IS WHAT GOVERNMENT IS ALL ABOUT. NOT OVERLOADING THE CIVIL SERVICE WITH UNDER EMPLOYED AND SLEEPING WORKFORCE THAT IMPEDES DEVELOPMENT.
