The Romanian Revolution against dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu began 25 years ago today in the city of Timișoara, when brave Romanians resisted an attempt by the regime to arrest anti-communist pastor László Tőkés. When troops came to his home, they were met by a ring of parishioners who blocked their access, risking a bloodbath. The spirit of resistance stiffened across the country, leading just days later to the arrest and execution on Christmas Day of Ceaușescu and his wife Elena. It was justice long overdue.
