The Ron Massey Cup team were beaten by the Asquith Magpies in Round 7 action earlier today. The two blues got off to a bad start and never really recovered, going down 18-30 to a very willing and hungry Asquith side. Coach Jason Williams blamed his sides lack of respect for the ball as the teams downfall. We didnt control the pill today and gave away far too much ball early in our sets. You cant give a side like Asquith that much possession and still expect to win, he said. We didnt win the ruck, were always on the back foot and just expected things to happen for us, added Williams We will take a lot out of this game and be much better for the run. Hooker Saxon Fischer Gray, speedster Brett Manning and tireless back rower Adrian Haangana were standouts, while fullback Shannon Gallant made a solid debut for the two blues and will only get better as he forms combinations with his team mates. They skipped away early, we would come back and then when we looked like scoring, we would make a basic error. The game never felt out of reach but we just couldnt get close enough to take the lead, lamented Williams. The task doesnt get any easier with the two blues returning home to New Era Stadium this Sunday against defending premiers and competition tall poppies the Wentworthville Magpies from 3pm. It will be the first time that former Coach Chris Yates and a number of former players return to New Era Stadium since walking out last year, in what is certainly shaping as an intriguing contest.
