The Rules: Dont take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors (poets included) whove influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first 15 you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. Tag at least 15 friends, including me, because Im interested in seeing what authors my friends choose. (To do this, copy this intro, go to the Notes tab on your profile page, click write a note, paste the intro into the body and start your list.) Note from Bethany: All I did was put this in my status because I couldnt WRITE A NOTE on my page--I used to know where those were, but theyre harder to find, now. 1. Stephenie Meyer THE TWILIGHT SAGA. Yes, I know...thats almost controversial to say in some circles, however, Id be lying if I said she didnt. Reading the series, I realized how much I liked brooding male characters and it kindled an interest in the Paranormal genre and opened up the possibility of non-really-dark vampires to me (which led me to other authors). 2. Kerrelyn Sparks, LOVE AT STAKE Series. Humor, paranormal, and romance. Need I say more? 3. Georgette Heyer, her Romances. Off the top of my head, THE GRAND SOPHY and FRIDAYS CHILD. I dont read a lot of Historical Romances, but Heyer definitely influences me. 4. Fairy-Tales (Grimm Brothers, Hans Christian Anderson, Disney etc). While not every fairy-tale is Happily-Ever-After, I do love the different elements and possibilities. 5. C.S. Lewis, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. Ive read these more than once. Oh and I reference them in ALLS FAIR IN LOVE & LION (did you catch the reference, those of you who have read my novel?) 6. Tess St. John mostly as a fellow author. I do love both her Romantic Suspense and her Historical Romances. As a critique partner, shes taught me so much. She may not write in my genre, but shes certainly got interesting perspectives, which make me think, and help me fix up my work. 7. Christie Craig, this woman is not only an incredible author, but an amazing person. Love her work. Especially SHUT UP AND KISS ME. Also, her C.C. Hunter novels are awesome. 8. Lesley Livingston. WONDROUS STRANGE Trilogy. Some of the most well-written YA Ive ever read. Wonderful fantasy, fantastic imagination. Ive ranted and raved about this trilogy so much Im going to bore people. 9. Carla Rossi, for her UNLIKELY PRAISE novel. Again, not your typical hero and definitely not your typical Christian Romance. 10. Shakespeare. Any of his plays really. But I really liked THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. I also am a huge fan of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (and yes, the movie, too!) 11. JRR Tolkein. I cant get through his LOTR Trilogy, but I respect the mans work, his genius, and his imagination. The fact that he could come up with everything he did is nothing short of amazing. I admire him very much. 12. Yuu Watase for her FUSHIGI YUGI (well in English spelled FUSHIGI YUUGI or something like that). Fantasy, action, romance. I read most of the Manga and watched the entire anime. Its still one of my favorites and one of the best. 13. The creator of HIIRO NO KAKERA anime (originally it was a game put together by Ideal Factory). For season 1 the music is gorgeous. The story line has remiscent of INUYASHA (another good anime) but it is its own story. Mixture of fantasy, romance, and action. I love stuff like that--fantasy and romance fires up my imagination. (I dont know if this is an influence or inspiration or just plain like, though...hmm). 14. Kristine Graysons fairy-tale Romance novels. I like what she created with these novels. 15. Marie Hall. Okay, I cant mention fairy-tale novels without mentioning Marie, it would be sacrilege. Of course with Marie comes the connection to the ONCE UPON A TIME show, and a myriad of other awesome things--such as conversation, and imagination. Shes just that cool. Need I say more? I have a confession, I took longer than 15 minutes, and I went back and changed one. Not because I didnt like the particular author, but because I couldnt think how the author INFLUENCED me. Then I remembered another author that I couldnt believe I didnt mention. So I HAD to put that author in. (My apologies for kinda violating the rules, but really that author was important if were talking about influences and inspiration). I wish I could mention more--there are NWHRWA members Id talk about--like Will Graham (loved his short story in SUSPENSE MAGAZINE and the one in MURDER BY MAGIC). Or Jennifer Bray-Webers Pirate Romances. Or Teri Thackston for WAIT UNTIL MOONRISE. Or a myriad of other chaptermates of mine whom Ive had the pleasure of getting to know and reading some of their work, too! There are authors who arent chapter mates whom Id mention--I dont know if they influenced me or if I just plain liked their work. Julius Lester for CUPID, Nancy Gideon for her BY MOONLIGHT series--Max Savoie is an anti-hero-hero and I just loved him. Theres also Julie Kagawas fae series that Ive enjoyed so much. Mary Lindseys ASHES ON THE WAVES--definitely inspiring, I dont know if its an influence, but its a gorgeous novel. Syrie James NOCTURNE, another gorgeous novel that Im not sure if it influenced me or if I just plain loved.
