The SAT is changing the type and CONTENT of testing to be more in line with their competitors because colleges are increasingly using other testing services. Im open to arguments that claim things like class and racial bias is possible in subjects like literature or in testing methods like essays, and everyone benefits by analyzing and correcting for that where it exits. But, they are also changing the CONTENT of math and science - to reflect the content expected to be taught in less financially able schools . . . or in inter-city schools that are less able to keep qualified instructors for longer terms. How can they not be embarrassed? When I was in school I had to study things that were clearly Western European historically biased, but math and science were not among the topics in that category. This change by the SAT people seems to me to be throwing up your hands and accepting racism and economic class conflict in favor of competing in a business market in which testers and many institutes of higher learning benefit financially from lowering standards.
