The SG govt under the PAP quickly switched to Simplified Chinese after Chinas economic opening up, with little or no regard for the years of heritage amongst Singaporean Chinese with traditional Chinese characters, especially so when SG was previously pro-Taiwan and anti-China due to C being a communist state. Once the C opened up economically (not politically) though, the P quickly switched sides. But alas, so what? Our Chinese, under PAPs anti-Chinese-language education and socio-political situation it created, were not able to connect with and understand Chinese culture anymore. Although in Malaysia they also use more of Simplified Chinese now, they have mostly not forgotten traditional Chinese with some newspapers still using it in the headlines, and why not, especially when the older generation (before Simplified Chinese) was more familiar with the traditional text. Even in Singapore, there are people who were educated pre-Simplified Chinese, but their interests are worth nothing to the PAP. And about the argument between using traditional vs Simplified Chinese, maybe this video may help bring some context to the lowly-informed soul:
