The Samples Set to Perform at New Year’s Eve Party in Phoenix Event to Provide Mortgage-Free Home to a Veteran Phoenix, Ariz. (Dec. 28, 2014)…The Samples, a popular Denver, Colo. based band will be performing at Camo and Pearl’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party on Wed., Dec. 31, 2014 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Monorchid, located at 214 East Roosevelt Street, in downtown Phoenix. The event will provide funding to Military Warriors Support Foundation, who recently purchased and renovated a mortgage-free home for local veteran Roy Halvorsen, Retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant. He moved into his new, handicap accessible home in Avondale in August 2014. The event is being coordinated by Valley residents Mike and Khristen Vanderwey and Jim and Christy Orders, along with EC70. The evening will include a special guest appearance by Lt. General, Leroy Sisco, (Ret), and founder of Military Warriors Support who will make opening remarks and present the ceremonial key to Roy Halvorsen. “We’re very excited about Camo and Pearls on New Year’s Eve,” said Sean Kelly, Samples lead singer and songwriter. “We visited the Valley often in our early years and have formed a wonderful friendship with the Vanderwey’s. When they approached us to perform at their event, it was a no-brainer. My father was a World War II veteran and Prisoner of War and my grandfather served in the military too. Performing at an event that supports military veterans is something that is near and dear to our hearts and the fact it was New Year’s Eve made it even that much more appealing!” Camo and Pearls guests will enjoy heavy appetizers, a full bar, live guitar music from Jack Young and a private concert by The Samples. Individual tickets are $150 and corporate sponsorships are still available. Forty guests can also purchase a “Meet and Greet” ticket for an additional $50, which gets them an intimate hour of drinks and appetizers with Sean Kelly and the entire Samples band from 8 to 9 p.m. Halvorsen was born in Mexico City, grew up in Norway and joined the United States Army in 1988 to serve his country and provide a better way of life for his family. He served at Fort Benning, GA; Camp Casey Korea, Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Lewis, WA; and was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Iraq, during his tenure with the military. During his last tour to Baghdad, Iraq, he was wounded in action and retired in December 2013. He recalls it being the hardest deployment because of all the attacks by enemies. Roy received a Purple Heart and numerous badges, medals and ribbons for his excellent service. His wife and four children have been very supportive of his military career and he’s excited to give them a new home in 2015. His oldest daughter is serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and her husband is serving on active duty Army as well. Now, that Roy is retired he’s looking forward to volunteering with the Veterans Adminstration and helping other soldiers like himself. “We are very excited about the new home,” said Halvorsen. “I was honored and humbled to be selected. Having a place for us to start our new life means everything to us. We are so appreciative of Military Warriors Support Foundation and the private donations of individuals in Phoenix who have made this possible!” Tickets to Camo and Pearl’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party are still available, to purchase or become an event sponsor, visit: camoandpearls.rocks. About Military Warriors Support Foundation Military Warriors Support Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, founded by Lt. General, Leroy Sisco, (Ret), in 2007. Their mission is to provide support for our nation’s combat wounded heroes and Gold Star Families as they transition out of the military and into their new civilian life. This is a very fragile time for these heroes, and their families, and it is our goal to provide programs that facilitate a smooth and successful transition. Their programs include home donation, academic and employment assistance, as well as recreational activities. Through Homes4WoundedHeroes, our homes donation program, they award 100% mortgage-free homes to combat wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. This program is also available to Gold Star Spouses of Heroes who have fallen in combat. In addition to the home, each family receives three years of family and financial mentoring so that they may learn the skills necessary to become happy and successful homeowners. This program not only changes the lives of the hero and their family, but it also changes the lives of the generations that follow. To learn more, visit: militarywarriors.org.
