The Scottish Government will announce plans to kick start the hunt for oil off the west coast of Scotland. The Scottish Government is to team up with top academics and experts to examine the potential for oil and gas discoveries in the seas around Arran. Despite its huge potential, just 20 exploration wells have been drilled to the west of the Scottish mainland, compared with more than 3,000 in the North Sea and west of Shetland.
