The Senate defeated an important amendment yesterday offered by one of our conservative champions, U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). Senator Lees amendment would devolve the federal highway program to the states, allowing them to keep the vast majority of their gas tax revenues and to make their own transportation infrastructure decisions. No one who truly believes in limited government would oppose this amendment. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran both voted with the Democrats against the amendment. There were 28 Republican votes for the amendment but our Senators have once again proven that they are for a BIG Federal Government and against giving Power to the states. They want to be able to put Federal controls on our tax dollars.
