The Sooke Region Museum is looking for people to fill two distinct positions at the museum: 1.Maintenance Worker The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is looking for a part time Maintenance Worker. Primary responsibilities are cleaning of the museum, weeding of garden beds, and assistance with the care of artifacts and other general maintenance tasks. This is a year round position. Most of the year, it is 3 days a week for 3 hours each of those days. In the peak season (mid May to mid October), the position could be up to 5 days a week. Typically the work day would be from 9am – Noon. Remuneration is $12 an hour. The ideal worker will have experience in gardening, comfortable with cleaning (inc. washrooms) and experience doing minor household repairs and carpentry. In exchange for the use of a one bedroom suite (includes heat, water, electricity and basic cable) and a small personal garden plot, the Caretaker will provide onsite security and basic outdoor maintenance (including: lawn care, garden watering, grounds cleaning, snow removal, after hour’s access, etc.). The ideal candidate will have experience using lawn care equipment, comfortable interacting with the visiting public. The position is well suited to someone with an outside income. A well behaved pet would be considered. The suite is small, but couples have lived in it. The Sooke Region Museum is a year-round facility that consists of a mixture of heritage buildings and purpose built structures plus grounds with gardens and historic artifacts.
