The Source of the Manzanilla Flooding. (Siphoning of Inland flood - TopicsExpress

The Source of the Manzanilla Flooding. (Siphoning of Inland flood waters from Biche / Plum Mitan unto the Manzanilla Coastline) How did farming affect the Eastern Nariva Swamp? The farmers cut waterways, that connect to one main waterway that leads to the East Coast, bypassing the Nariva Swamp and draining directly into the Nariva River. (This is bypassing the mangrove and delivering the water into the river basin itself to then be push out into the ocean) this has been ongoing for over 20 years, which allowed gradual deforestation and destruction of the mangrove. In 2012-2013 the government decided they should dredge these waterways, to reduce the flooding of the illegally occupied farmlands. (at the basin of the swamp) in advent to boost the Agricultural Production of the country and to also reduce their yearly expenditure to farmers for Crop Loss. The dredging of these waterways at first seemed like a brilliant plan by the government which encouraged the preservation of the natural habitat by warden restriction of exploitative fishing, hunting and capturing of endangered species of animals and plants. (The conservation of flora and fauna) In recent events, this Agricultural Development Project. opened a channel for inland flood waters from the Biche/ Plum Mitan flats. (The basin of Nariva Swamp) as a super highway for flood waters to the Nariva River which runs concurrent with the Manzanilla stretch. ( Coastal, beach-line) The massive flow from inland has proven to be too much for the Nariva River basin where the water flowed beyond the normal curvature of the river to eventually cutting off the roadways, causing the infrastructure of the roadways to fail. This has caused the dysfunction of one of the most important roadways in Eastern Trinidad, the connection between Mayaro and Sangre Grande is currently severed. The measure of destruction is still amounting as the ongoing rainfalls contribute an annihilating blow to the already, broken down and riddled roadway. Could this have been avoided? Yes. Could this still be fixed? Yes. What about the parties who are responsible? Thats for you all to decide.
