The South of the river members met in Armadale and Melanie & Leila - TopicsExpress

The South of the river members met in Armadale and Melanie & Leila along with & Priska each did a track following the creeks and lakes around Armadale, they tracked through underground tunnels, waded in water with the ducks, all the time following a trail left by an eleven year old boy. The rain was constant throughout working the track. Both of these dogs worked beautifully. Priska being Priska ended up having an impromptu swim before continuing on her merry way. We then put Sonya and Bella along with Di & Tanuki on their Re-Assessment tracks (2 years since being first certified as Operational). The rain was coming down so hard that Sonya & Mel (Safety Steward) often had to turn away from the track to wipe the rain from their eyes. Bella was first up and she revelled in the conditions, the more it rained the more excited she became. The track was laid up some extremely steep hills and on the slopes coming back down, the water ran like a min waterfall. Bella had a ball. I followed up in my car not being allowed to put myself through the strain of walking the steep hills. Bella could not be faulted she worked a near perfect track. Congratulation to this remarkable team! Di was next handling Tanuki. This pair had to wait without shelter for 30 minutes to get their start article so they looked like a pair of drowned rats before they even got started. Tanuki opted to miss a couple of turns and worked up as very steep hill and picked up the point where the 11 year old had walked. The track had been designed to give the dogs the option of doing this. From then she followed the track perfectly to its conclusion. Beautifully handled by Di who had not handled her for 18 months. The whole group finished off a brilliant morning of tracking celebrating with lunch at Macdonald’s. I had forgotten just how much young boys can eat! Congratulations to everyone involved.
