“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me… He has sent me to heal the broken hearted.” (Luk.4:18) Beloved! The prophet Isaiah says about the Lord Jesus Christ, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me He has sent me to heal the broken hearted.” We see in Psa.147, the Psalmist saying, “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.” Moreover, we see in Psa.94:19, “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” Yes, beloved. Firstly, The Word which the Lord has caused me to hope will bind my wounds, heal me and comfort me (Psa.119:49,50). If the Lord has given you a promise and caused you to hope for, when you come to the Lord clinging on to that promise, that promise gives you comfort. Secondly, prophecy speaks edification, exhortation and comfort to men (I Cor.14:3). We read in Prov.25:11, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” The Lord has given the prophet the tongue of the learned, that he should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary (Isa.50:4). Yes, beloved. The words that come forth from the mouth of the prophet of the Lord bind up our wounds, heal us and comfort us. Thirdly, the place or fellowship where we gather and pray gives us comfort. When Paul came to Macedonia with conflicts and fears, he says that the fellowship of Titus and others gave him joy and comfort (IICor.7:5,6). Fourthly, we read in Eph.6:21,22, when the men of God come seeking us or when they speak to us over the telephone, they comfort us. The love of the Spirit of the Lord thus consoles and comforts us. Do not worry. He is faithful to bind our wounds, heal us and comfort us. Prayer: O Lord! We, who have you as our God, are blessed. Amen!
