The Star-Studded Third Annual Jamey Johnson Golf Tournament a Huge Success Kid Rock, Jerrod Niemann, Colt Ford, Boo Weekley and John Daly Among Those Raising More than $40,000 for Charity The third annual Jamey Johnson Golf Tournament, which was held on Sunday at the Cottonwood Golf Club in Montgomery, Alabama, was a tremendous success, raising nearly $50,000 for charity. The tournament raised about $42,000 for The Nikki Mitchell Foundation to help fight pancreatic cancer. In addition, it raised about $5,200 worth of cash and toys for the Montgomery area Marine Toys for Tots. Celebrity golfers included Kid Rock and professional golfers Tommy Biershenk, John Daly and Boo Weekley, Also playing golf were Robbie “Shank” BIershenk, the younger brother of Tommy Biershenk and a contestant in the Golf Channel’s 2012 Chasing the Dream Series, and John Daly II, the son of the famed golfer. Those joining Johnson in the event’s concert included Colt Ford, Jerrod Niemann, James Otto, Chris Hennessee and Gina Gailey. “There were about 1,000 people in attendance,” says Johnson. “For our first year accepting sponsors, it was a great success on every level.” ABOUT THE NIKKI MITCHELL FOUNDATION: The foundation’s namesake, Nikki Mitchell passed away in July 2013 of pancreatic cancer. She served as President and CEO of Waylon Jennings’ music for more than 23 years. During her tenure there, she made history of her own with the Bridge of Wings flight in 1998, where she circumnavigated the northern hemisphere as co-captain in a single engine aircraft. In December 2010, Nikki was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Taking the bull by the horns she consulted with renowned medical professionals around the country and her zeal for life throughout her 31-month battle never diminished. The Nikki Mitchell Foundation (NMF) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to seeking and supporting the most breakthrough data available for the early detection and cure of pancreatic cancer. Not tied to any one hospital, the NMF will support the most promising research with a focus on gene-based therapies along with a special emphasis on prevention and patients’ preferences in determining their care.
