The State Department immigration system is broken and has been for - TopicsExpress

The State Department immigration system is broken and has been for a very long time. Some is due to laws written in the 1960s. We have had all manner of immigration problems since. The current immigration reform is focusing on some form of amnesty. That is what it is, no matter by what fancy name some would put on it. The rest of the immigration proposal is designed to be just attractive enough to bring in some republican and conservative support. I have not heard anything about a basic overhaul of the way things are done at the State Department. Immigration reform first needs to look at our basic immigration system and reform it in such a way that it will work and pick up these security threats before visas are approved. Hey, State Dept., lets put that massive NSA database to good use. While doing that, we should control our borders. The current President does not believe in that. The are several federal laws requiring that now including the funding of and the building of a border fence which he has decided not to enforce.
