The State of NYC Public Education in 2014 (Prelude) Once upon - TopicsExpress

The State of NYC Public Education in 2014 (Prelude) Once upon a time teachers would receive respect. Respect from parents, students, administrators and from society. Somewhere in time, things went horribly wrong. Teachers and the entire profession have been turned upside down. The politics and the hidden agendas have taken its toll. Teachers in NYC are truly on the endangered species list These problems seem to rest exclusively in the inner city, which houses the students most in need. When you have the teacher’s union basically shunned by its own members you know the problems are huge. I will address shortly what I see as the biggest problems facing public education in NYC as well as the chances of emerging from this nosedive. I too will address the mindset of our teachers culled from hundreds and hundreds of teachers I have spoken with. Make no mistake, teachers are under attack. The propaganda ministers are doing their spinning as they attempt to deter and deflect from the reality. If we do not reverse course and soon, we will have lost a generation of students. To be continued.
