The Sterling Heights Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2015 Scholarship Season is now open! The Sterling Heights Community Foundation and its associates are offering yet another record number of scholarships this spring totaling $35,000 for college bound high school seniors and current college students living in Sterling Heights and Macomb County. This second consecutive record-breaking scholarship season includes an increase in the amount of the awards offered in two of the scholarship categories. General Dynamics Land Systems has doubled the number and amount for its recipients, opting to award four $1000 scholarships this year. Additionally, due to the generous donations of residents and businesses following the passing of Richard Notte, the award for the former mayor’s namesake scholarship has also been doubled and will provide one student with a $1000 scholarship. Scholarship partners BAE Systems, Chrysler Foundation, Ford Motor Company, Friends of Tom Kroll, General Dynamics Land Systems, Macomb County Chiropractic Association, former Mayor Richard J. Notte, Rotary Club of Sterling Heights and the Selfridge ANG/Base Community Council are now accepting scholarship applications from students who plan to pursue degrees in general studies, technical training programs, science, technology, engineering, computer science, automotive technician careers, mathematics, chiropractic health care or public service. The foundation will award 40 scholarships in May. The scholarships listed below have an application deadline of Friday, March 13, 2015. • BAE Systems Scholarship – The company will award two (2) $500 scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics curriculums). • Chrysler Foundation Scholarship – The Chrysler Foundation will award ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to Sterling Heights residents graduating from high school with plans to pursue mechanical and electrical engineering, manufacturing, computer science and automotive technician careers. • Ford Motor Company Scholarship – The Ford Motor Company will award ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to Sterling Heights residents pursuing undergraduate degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics curriculums). • General Dynamics Land Systems Scholarship – The company will award four (4) $1000 scholarships to high school students pursuing undergraduate degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering. • Macomb County Chiropractic Association Scholarship - The association will provide three (3) $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a career in chiropractic health care. • Mayor Richard J. Notte Scholarship for Public Service - The Sterling Heights Community Foundation will award one (1) $1000 scholarship to a Sterling Heights college student pursuing a college degree in public service. • Rotary Club of Sterling Heights Scholarship - The club will award two (2) $500 scholarships to Sterling Heights residents who are either high school seniors or college students. • Selfridge ANG/Base Community Council Scholarship - The council will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships to children of military personnel attached to Selfridge Air National Guard Base attending college or vocational training. • Sterling Heights Community Foundation Scholarship - The foundation will award five (5) $500 scholarships to students pursuing college degrees or vocational training. • Tom Kroll Scholarship - The Sterling Heights Community Foundation will award one (1) $500 scholarship in honor of Tom Kroll, a retired UCS teacher and coach. “We would like to thank our scholarship partners, sponsors, and donors for recognizing the achievements of our local students and making it possible to meet their future expectations,” said foundation director and scholarship chairman John Bozymowski. “Our students’ high academic credentials, and their demonstrated leadership qualities in school and community activities, are very promising as they pursue their dream careers.” Scholarship programs are administered and managed by the Sterling Heights Community Foundation. These scholarships must be used by date of college graduation. A complete list of scholarships with detailed criteria as well as the formal application is available on the foundation’s website. Scholarship winners will be announced this spring. Applications are also available at the Sterling Heights Community Relations Department, located on the lower level of City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, on the foundation’s web site: sterlingheightscommunityfoundation.org and at local secondary education schools.
