The Story of “Oliver” On the morning of 10 January at about - TopicsExpress

The Story of “Oliver” On the morning of 10 January at about 06:30 LPBH received a “please-call me”. We phoned back and it was a resident from the Holfontein camp, desperately seeking help for one of her puppies. Holfontein is where we work with the animals every second week. We acted quickly and our members, Nel and Ian were on their way to the camp. On their arrival they found this beautiful little puppy (Now named Oliver) in the camp. He is about 5 weeks old and was in pain and agony – after doing a quick check up, Nel saw that his right front leg was swollen and immediately left for the Evander Animal Hospital. Our Vets assisted and after examining him, they found that his right front leg was broken (shuttered). This is no good news for any township animal and is a death sentence, as they will not receive the care and attention needed in the camp. The owners do not have the money for medical care. Little Paws Big Hearts Secunda stand for saving and not putting down, so we will do everything we can to safe one life (one broken leg) even with the limited funds available. This was also the case with Blackie (a puppy with a broken leg) who is now running around on four legs. The Botes family opened their hearts to this little one (Ruchel baptized him “OLIVER”) and is taking care of him as long as needed. His leg is wrapped in bandages, which needs to be changed every 3rd day. As this is very costly route we as Little Paws are depended on donations to take care of Oliver. Just for general information there are many newborn puppies in the camps and we are committed to do more sterilizations in the coming months. Biliary (Bosluiskoors) and Parvovirus (Katgriep) is the silent killer in the townships, especially the puppies are the most vulnerable to this. We are doing our utmost best to treat these animals and to dip them on a regular basis. Any donation is appreciated and can be paid in at our Evander Animal Hospital Little Paws account.
