The Story of the Tinning Children. In Spring 1965, Marybeth Roe and Joe Tinning were married. In the 5 years of their marriage Joe and Marybeth had 2 children Barbara and Joseph, Jr. In October 1971 Marybeths father died of a sudden heart attack. In December of the same year Marybeth had a 3rd child called Jennifer. On January 3rd 1972, Jennifer died in a Schenectady hospital of a sever infection, which was diagnosed as meningitis. Investigators didnt believe that this death was suspicious because Jennifer was sick at birth and never brought home, he successive deaths of her father and her baby may have affected Marybeths fragile mental condition. 17 days after Jennifers death, Marybeth took Joseph, Jr (2) to the Ellis Hospital emergency room, she said he had some type of seizure, he was kept under observation but the doctors couldnt find anything wrong with him so they sent him home. Several hours later Marybeth returned to the hospital with Joseph, this time he was dead, she told the doctors that she put him to bed and when she went to check on him, he was tangled in the sheets and he was blue. Nearly 6 years after Joseph, Jrs death, Marybeth took Barbara Ann (4) to the emergency room, she told the doctors that she had gone into convulsions. Even though the doctors wanted Barbara to stay overnight Marybeth insisted that she take Barbara home, several hours later she returned with Barbara who was unconscious, she died later from unknown causes. Reyes Syndrome was suspected in Barbaras death but was never proven. On Thanksgiving 1973, Marybeth gave birth to a son called Timothy. 3 weeks after Timothys birth, he was taken to the same hospital, this time he was dead. Marybeth said she found him lifeless in the crib. He death was offically attributed as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), although doctors found nothing medically wrong with him. 2 years later on March 30th 1975, Marybeth had another son called Nathan. On September 2nd, Marybeth arrived at St. Clares Hospital with the dead baby Nathan in her arms, she said she was driving with Nathan in his car seat in the front seat and she noticed he stopped breathing. There seemed to be not explanation for this but SIDS. In 1978, Joe and Marybeth made arrangements to adopt a child, that same year Marybeth was pregnant again with a 6th child called Mary Frances, they didnt cancel the adoption but chose to keep both children. From adopted they had a little boy called Michael. 2 months later she gave birth to Mary Frances, in January 1979, she rushed Mary Frances to the emergency room, directly across the street from her apartment, she said Marybeth had a seizure. The staff were able to revive her but on February 20th she came back to the hospital with Mary Frances who was brain dead, once again she said she found her unconscious and didnt know what happened to her. Her death was also attributed as SIDS. When Mary Frances was buried, Marybeth became pregnant with with her 7th child Jonathan, she arrived at St. Clares Hospital with an unconscious Jonathan, he was also revived. Due to the familys history Jonathan was taken to Boston Hospital where he was throughly examined, the doctors couldnt find any valid medical reason why he had stopped breathing, so he was sent home, a few days later Marybeth returned to the hospital and he was brain dead, he died on March 24th 1980. Less than 1 year later on March 2nd 1981, Marybeth showed up at the pediatricians office with 2 1/2 year old Michael, he was unconscious and wrapped in a blanket. She told the doctors she didnt know what was wrong with him and she couldnt wake him, when the doctor examined him, he was already dead. Since Michael was adopted, the long suspected theory that deaths in the Tinning family had a genetic origin was discarded. On August 22nd 1985, Marybeth gave birth to her eighth biological child Tami Lynne. On December 19th, a next door neighbor Cynthia Walter who was also a practical nurse, went shopping with Marybeth and later visited her home. Later that night Cynthia recieved a frantic phone call from Marybeth, when she arrived she found Tami Lynne lying on the changing table, she testified that Tami Lynne wasnt moving and she couldnt find her pulse or breathing, in the emergency room Tami Lynne was pronounced dead. Suspicions mounted that Marybeth was alone with all the children when they died, but there wasnt any evidence of wrongdoing. After a police investigation, Marybeth confessed that she smothered Tami Lynne, Nathan and Timothy, she later retracted this. She denied harming any of the children. In Tami Lynnes case she was convicted and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Rest in Peace Tinning Childrenxx
