The Supreme Court, or the conservative bloc of it at least, has endowed corporations with some inalienable human rights that were heretofore the province of mere individuals. Corporations have had freedom of speech for a few years. Now corporations have freedom of religion, and they don’t have to pay for bad girls to get their unholy no-baby pills. Yes, yes, this MUST have been what James Madison had in mind when he and his colleagues wrote the Constitution. Crystal ball time. I prophesy that it will not be long before a religion is formed by a corporation (ala Christian Science/Jehovah’s Witnesses) designed specifically to deny employees health care altogether on spiritual grounds. It may seem ludicrous, but so is this ruling. We have seen religions incorporate, so it would not be entirely outlandish now to see corporations religionize, especially if it cuts health care costs. If corporations now have the same rights to religious expression and free speech, will it be long before they demand the right to bear arms? You may now go on about your business…if your boss’s preacher approves of it, of course.
