The Swiss spoke about how he’s doing both mentally and physically, sounding confident about his chances for the rest of the season. Its all happening. Beating Novak on the hard courts here in Dubai is tough. Clearly its not best of five, clearly not the finals of some whatever tournament, but this is a big step in the right direction. It gives me a lot of confidence. Physically, Im doing well. Well have to see how I handle travelling all the way to Indian Wells. At Indian Wells, Federer will of course go head to head with fierce rival Rafael Nadal at some point in the contest one would have to imagine. The two have been rivals ever since the Spaniard debuted back in 2004 and seem to share a healthy off court relationship. However, the 17-time Grand Slam champion feels that they are “too nice” to each other. “Were almost too nice to each other sometimes, I dont want to say todays players are too soft, but its good when players go after each other a bit. Im not sure how close we are as friends. Ill be interested how much well stay in touch once everything is said and done and were off the circuit. Were not going to dinner, if you know what I mean. I dont know how it was in Connorss era.”
