The Syrian tragedy ! Why presidential and gubernatorial term limits in America were designed for: - To preserve the purpose of electing an official, which is to serve and please the society and keep politics fresh and democracy alive. - To prevent an elected official from consolidating power and becoming an absolute ruler, like a king or emperor and take the country as his/her own real estate and the society as laborers who only need to make a living. States of Vermont and New Hampshire have only two years term limits. Virginia, my state, has one term limit ( only 4 years ). The American presidency has two term limits ( 4 years each ), how good and wealth generating the person is for the American society. In the contrary an absolute ruler ( such as Assad of Syria) destroys his country, divide his own people and make them kill each other and obliterates the infrastructures built for decades to dust - what a contrast !
