The Tennessee Federation for Children is running dishonest attack ads against my friend, Bo Mitchell. Who are they? -The American Federation for Children is an organization with roots in Milwaukee that promotes privatization of schools through vouchers. It is funded by the owners of Amway, who are among of the main funders of school privatization efforts alongside the Waltons (owners of Walmart). -The Tennessee Federation for Children is its local branch. It is based in DC and headed by a local venture capitalist/attorney who is also heavily involved with the Tennessee Charter School Center. This group promotes school choice and charter schools- and also has ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). -ALEC is a secretive group that promotes corporate interests. ALEC was behind our new state charter authorizer law, which took away local control of schools. That alone should be enough to encourage you to vote for Bo, who is in a tight race this year!! But heres more: Bo is my neighbor and a huge supporter of public schools. He sends his own children to our local neighborhood schools (with mine) and has donated a huge amount of time, money and effort over the years to support our schools. He has also fought hard in the legislature against heavily funded special interest groups (mostly from outside of TN) that are trying to make money of the backs of our children (through excessive testing, charter schools, vouchers, etc.). Bo will continue to STAND UP for us if we give him a chance. Early voting is going on through Thursday, and Bo really needs your vote to win! Please vote for him.
