The Tenth Commandment is Do not covet (Exodus 20:17, Deuteronomy - TopicsExpress

The Tenth Commandment is Do not covet (Exodus 20:17, Deuteronomy 5:21). Unlike several of the other commandments, which prohibit certain actions, the command not to covet deals with the heart. In fact, Scripture tells us that sin originates from our desires (e.g. James 1:15). Therefore, since coveting is a strong desire, it follows that many sins, such as dishonesty and theft, are the result of covetousness. Moreover, when we break the Tenth Commandment, we are also breaking the greatest commandment to love God and love our neighbor (Matthew 22:34-40). Covetousness tells God that we are unsatisfied with His love and provision; in other words, He isn’t enough for us. And it also shows a lack of respect for our neighbors ownership. We should rejoice and praise God when He blesses others, just the same as when He blesses us. Therefore, let us learn to be content and trust in Gods divine wisdom with regard to our possessions and circumstances. But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content (1 Timothy 6:6-8).
