The Torre del Lago Opera Festival takes place every year in Torre del Lago in the province of Lucca. The Opera Festival is held in an open-air theatre set on the Massaciuccoli lakefront, a really striking location. The Opera Festival is dedicated to Giacomo Puccini, the Italian composer who lived and worked in Torre del Lago between 1891 and 1921. In 2013, beyond Puccini, the 59th edition of the Opera Festival pays tribute to two other famous Italian composers: Giuseppe Verdi in the bicentenary of his birth and Pietro Mascagni on his 150th birth anniversary. In fact, alongside Puccini’s famous titles TOSCA, TURANDOT and TABARRO, the festival stages RIGOLETTO and CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA. The 2013 lyrical billboard includes 16 opera nights between July 12 and August 24, with 3 new productions. The season opens on July 12 with the representation of the diptych TABARRO & CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA. The two titles have already been played in Torre del Lago, but this is the first time they are presented in the form of a diptychs.
