The Touro Communication Club presents: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 – 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Room 316 – Midtown “Impromptu Speaking: Thinking on Your Feet” Thinking on your feet is a skill that we do all the time, but don’t realize it. When we talk to our friends, co-workers, teachers, we are “thinking on our feet.” Anglo-American poet W.H. Auden said, “I don’t know what I am going to say until I write it.” Speaking without apparent preparation is similar. We rarely think about what we are going to say in conversation, Yet, in a formal situation, our brain freezes. Impromptu Speaking is an acquired skill. It requires practice. You need to think on your feet when you are In a job interview Asking the professor for a higher grade Proposing marriage Giving a toast Making a point in a discussion In an argument Making a sale In a street altercation Impromptu Speaking is a teachable, learnable skill. Practicing this skill makes it possible to present oneself professionally at all times. Great fun! Bring Your Friends!
