The Treble Journey Begins In the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, Orlando Pirates won two trebles in succession, and both trebles began with victories in the MTN8 finals. The Buccaneers won the MTN8 in 2010 against Moroka Swallows on penalties, and they went on to win a treble at the end of that season. Again in 2011, Bucs won the MTN8 final against rivals Kaizer Chiefs by 1-0. The goal came in extra-time from Oupa Manyisa, and Pirates went on to win another treble at the end of that season. We have been the most successful team in the country for the past five years, and at one stage we were compared to Spanish giants, Barcelona. Lately, Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, said “In my opinion, Pirates are the best team in the country, and how do you measure that? It’s in the field. They’ve got a star [representing an African title], and that’s big and they’ve won so many titles. We (Mamelodi Sundowns) need to copy them.” Surely we are the best team in the country, but, can the 2010/11 & 2011/12 history repeat itself once more?
