The Trust for the National Mall is promoting the restoration of the grass as a way to honor veterans. I think its great to support veterans too. We should support them and their families in recovering from the physical and mental trauma of conflict. We should make it easy for them to access the benefits that they are entitled to for fighting on our behalf. Concerts are great too. But I think its a bit silly to try and make the case that good looking grass honors their service and sacrifice. Actions that support them and their needs honor truly them. But if we are really going to talk about the the Mall on Veterans Day that the best way to do that is to keep the National Mall open and accessible to all for protests, festivals, and gatherings that bring people together and dont require VIP passes.
