The Two things that destroyed the north: the pogrom and the Gowon/Awolowo 1969 Petroleum decree. I read Damola Awoyokuns rejoinder to the piece earlier published by G.G.Darah and I must confess that I agree with him 99%. The north had everything going for it until its leaders in conjunction with the south west conspired to deprive the Niger Delta of its legitimate oil resources in guise of fighting Biafra. The result is what we are witnessing today. The north must agree to 50% resource control as practiced prior to 1966. This is the only way to its renewal. The north was rich and self sustaining before oil came into the picture. The land and mineral resources are still there, so why the laziness? You cannot have food in your home and allow others to insult and call you names because you are begging them for crumbs. Northern leaders must roll up their sleeves and back to the basics. I am afraid that there will be no peace in Nigeria unless there is equity in resource control
