The reason is that Russian President Putin , according to the U.S. is a secret co-owner of the company, which in 2012 earned 93 billion dollars. Putin was previously touted by opponents to be one of the worlds richest men . Like the Russian critics earlier also claimed that Putin has helped his longtime friend , businessman and majority shareholder of Gunvor , Gennady Timchenko , to his vast fortunes through the oil company Gunvor . - Timchenko s activities in the energy sector has been directly linked to Putin.
