The US State Department has made corrections to its already published Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement regarding the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline that if built would carry oil from Canada across Nebraska to the Gulf Coast. There was an error in the Impact Statement in projecting how many people would be injured or killed in train-related accidents on an annual basis, assuming no pipeline was built and there was increased rail traffic hauling the tar sands oil. The number of train-related deaths is now projected to be 28 per year and not 6 as was first reported. The number of train-related injuries is projected to be 189 per year and not 49 as was earlier reported. Such deaths and injuries might occur at highway-rail grade crossings or involve rail equipment incidents. Here is a link to the State Departments corrected report or Errata Sheet. 1.usa.gov/UhYlHZ
