The US inst a laughingstock, that was during the early days of the first Reagan regime. Today, America is a tragedy - a cacophony of dynamic stagnation echoing frustration and, fear. People ask me, OK, you have a point - things are bad - whatre we supposed to do about it?. I usually offer some pseudo post sixties ideas of revolution via the ballot. Lets face it - it sounds good on the surface, but ultimately, any ideas which dont take the core of the issues into consideration is just another I Love You a song done by a one hit wonder group called People - they didnt write it, it sounded good for a while, now its forgotten. Many ideas and solutions have been proposed by many folks, from the brilliant to the tea party and, heres a thought - maybe a brilliant idea has even come from a tea party member! Heres the point (yes, I hear the Finally!!), how the hell would we know? We, as - not just a nation, but an entire culture - which weve also influenced others - have forgotten how to coexist; it begins with the respect necessary to, actually LISTEN to one another - presupposing that the other person or side, is capable of having a point. In turn, that person then must understand that he is obliged to do the same - listen and hear the other side. Only when individuals and groups are able to conjure that degree of respect, will they be able to acknowledge each others differences - and accept that each must give up something in the process of gaining so much more. Until this happens, our future as a nation, a culture and, a species is looking more perilous by the day. A note to the grammar parvenus ( I take license with the term as used by Vonnegut)- yes, Im aware of punctuation deficiencies - if you feel that situation detracts from my message - please offer YOUR well formed, perfectly punctuated thoughts on how we may repair the divide which has so damaged and separated us. I shall be happy to listen and, encourage other to do so.
