In each we heard the same; public education is a failure. It has to change. More often than not, the refrain remains. We must go back, back to the future, before there was – stake your claim. No Child Left Behind? Goals 2000? A Nation at Risk put our nation in peril? Or could it be the The Department of Education Organization Act is to blame. Surely, it cannot be the Elementary and Secondary Education Act that is the problem. Well, that depends on where you stand. Regardless of your perspective you will hear the claim; public education is a failure. Schools are our shame. You may have read the more recently written missive, The Myth Behind Public School Failure written in 2014. The Author, Dean Paton stated, as Richard Rothstein did before him in 2001; we need more support and true solutions. ‘Tis true, the past is prologue.
