The United Nations has officially condemned the City of Detroit for violating basic human rights by shutting off the water of anyone too poor to pay (this coming on the heels of their decision to nearly double their charges toward residents). If anything should be provided free by the government through our taxes, it should be water. Even in Mexico, its illegal to completely shut off someones water. How the US is behind Mexico in regards to the protection of one of the most basic (and arguably the most important) human rights is baffling... actually, I guess it really isnt that surprising for a country that values profit above all else. ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=14777&LangID=E
