The United Nations has warned that food insecurity is threatening nearly 40 countries across the globe with more than three quarter of them in Africa. According to the Food and Agriculture Organizations Crop Prospects and Food Situation Report civil conflicts, adverse weather and the Ebola outbreak are some of the root causes of the food insecurity. The outbreak of Ebola in western Africa reportedly began just as crops were being planted in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, causing a drop in the agricultural harvest in those countries. The report also shows that bad weather adversely affected harvests in the Sahel region.
