The United States I grew up in, there were people from all over - TopicsExpress

The United States I grew up in, there were people from all over the world coming here for the opportunities to be free and succeed or fail on their own merits. The standard of living was the best in the world. This included, and still includes, but to a lesser degree than when I was younger, better housing, better diet and better health care. How people chose to navigate their way within this embarrassment of riches was up to them, and the government pretty much stayed out of the way, unless needed to sort things out when human nature got out of hand, and large groups of people were being taken advantage of by the crafty and the clever. Some people failed, many succeeded. This country is not perfect, but the common idea our country was founded upon was to form a more perfect union. The perfection of the person, under God, was made easy and possible by the government allowing people to seek God and do justice to their neighbor. When people were inspired to do good, the state stayed out of the way of people who did good. When individuals did good, all people succeeded in one way or another. The Socialist idea is to form a union, period, with the state being the highest authority. Not God, not the people, not the individual, not a union of states, but the state, period. Under Socialism, if the state fails, everyone fails.
