The United States offers a huge variety of tourism opportunities as attendees learned at last week’s Travel Expo 2014 organized by the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA). Members of Embassy Manila attended to promote important U.S. goals of encouraging tourism and supporting legitimate travel. Deputy Chief of Mission (“deputy ambassador”) Brian L. Goldbeck and Senior Commercial Officer Jim McCarthy met February 15 with representatives from U.S. firms present, including Citibank, Delta Airlines, the Guam Visitors Bureau, and United Airlines, to underscore the Embassy’s support for their efforts. Goldbeck said, “We hope to encourage more U.S. firms to participate in this and similar events this year and next. Judging from the many travelers visiting these booths, there is clearly lots of interest in visiting the U.S.” Goldbeck and McCarthy attended Guam’s dance and song performance which featured colorful dancers as well as crowd dancing and singing participation. Later that day, Consul General Donna Blair led a group of Consular Officers and local staff to visit the American booths to provide information to the representatives on U.S. visas and to answer customers’ questions.
